Heat-labile feed enzymes such as ChemGen's Hemicell® are applied by spray after
the feed is pelleted and cooled. ChemGen's Enzyme Application Systems have been designed with flexibility,
reliability, accuracy, and uniformity always in mind. These systems are matched to the particular needs
of each specific mill. They can be operated as stand-alone units, or can have different levels of integration
to the control & reporting system of the mill. Allowing the feed formula from the mill control system to
manipulate the level of Hemicell® application, provides the mill with that extra level of
confidence. Our EAS can be tailored to variable numbers of feed lines and multiple enzymes per line.
Reliable mass flow equipment, precision pumps, and other high accuracy devices are employed to
make these systems the best possible. With all the consideration for first class application, simplicity
for the operator and our Field Service Technicians has not been overlooked.
ChemGen EAS
for large scale milling operations have a self-contained Pumping Skid. It is parked conveniently
on the main floor of the mill. Inside this skid are the array of pumps, meters, sensors, and controls
for the EAS. Above is a photo of such a skid, with an integral top mounted tote scale that
handles 10,000 pounds, and topped by a 330 gallon Hemicell® tote. These skids are prebuilt
and only require electrical & plumbing hook-ups. At the
other end of the spectrum, are compact systems designed for the
more modest sized mill, which also benefits from Hemicell®
application just like the larger mill.
The ChemGen EAS relies on knowledge of the feed flow to enable
the excellent results it routinely provides. Some feed mills have mass flow
sensing already in place, such as for fat application, but other mills need some type of mass
flow feature added in the process stream.
This mass flow sensing works in proximity to
the enzyme application point. ChemGen has devised a number of ways to incorporate
an enzyme application point with the mass flow knowledge, while avoiding any
interference with full-speed feed production and mill operations.

The ChemGen EAS
uses a color touch screen for user control, monitoring, calibration, and set-up.
In stand-alone mode the operator can control the application rate of enzyme(s)
based on the feed formulas. In an integrated mill, that duty is handled directly by the main
mill control system. The touch screen also shows surge bin status, pump status, gate status,
totalized feed production, totalized enzyme application, and has the ability to alert the
operator to any system warnings or alarms that may develop.
ChemGen remotely checks the accuracy of enzyme application for all domestic customers on
a daily basis. For every 24-hour period, the enzyme applied is compared to the amount of
feed made. Should a deviation from the desired enzyme application rate ever occur, a
ChemGen Field Service Technician will contact the mill, visit if necessary, and pursue
immediate resolution. Many options for calibration & fine tuning can be executed remotely.
Field Service Technicians visit each mill monthly to verify operation of the EAS, inspect it,
and do preventive maintenance. Assay samples of the feed are processed on a regular basis,
to ensure that desired dosages are being applied to the feed. Please see detailed descriptions of our assay program.
ChemGen has found that intensive customer service programs such as these, are critical
for successful use of enzymes.
